In actual production, the yield of ball mill does not reach the design requirements is a common problem, which brings adverse effects to the production of mineral processing plant. In order to facilitate efficient production, let’s take a look at the 10 reasons why the output of the mill does not meet the requirements.

01 Unreasonable Proportion of Ball Mill Bin Length

Back

Unreasonable proportion of each bin of ball mill will cause imbalance of coarse grinding and fine grinding capacity, resulting in coarse or too fine products, which will affect the yield.

02 Large Grinding Material Size

Back

If the particle size of the material is large, the impact and grinding effect of the grinding medium will be weakened, and the first bin of the grinding mill is forced to be filled with more steel balls to enhance the ability of impact grinding material. The first bin is responsible for the crushing role, resulting the grinding process is unreasonable.

The high functional utilization of the crusher, increasing crushing and reducing the size of grinding, not only can reduce energy consumption, but also can increase production.

03

Back

The material temperature is too high, resulting in the decrease of grinding efficiency. In order to reduce the temperature of the material in the mill, a small amount of mist water can be sprayed into the grinding bin, and small mills can take the method of pouring water on the mill surface.

04

Back

When the moisture content of the material is high. Grinding medium and lining plate will be adhered to form a "bumper", and at the same time will block the grate, causing "full grinding". Moisture is not as low as possible, but should be kept within a certain range.

05 Poor Ventilation In The Mill

Back

Heat energy is released during the grinding process, the temperature in the mill will increase, and if not properly ventilated, the mill will become too hot.

On the one hand, strengthen the ventilation can discharge the powder in the mill in time, reduce the phenomenon of over-powder grinding, so as to improve the efficiency of grinding. On the other hand, strengthening ventilation can eliminate water vapor in the mill in time, reduce the fine powder adhesion phenomenon, prevent materials from sticking to the steel ball and blocking the grate hole, and ensure the normal operation of the grinding mill.

06 Irrational Ratio of Grinding Medium

Back

In order to increase the impact and grinding of the grinding medium on the material and improve the grinding efficiency, the grinding medium must be rationed. The range is generally between 25% to 35%, with 28% to 32% mostly.

When the material has poor grindability or grinding requirements of fine particle size, the first bin filling rate should be lower, not higher than 28% is appropriate.

07 Influence of the Materials Abrasiveness

Back

The abrasiveness of the material refers to the degree of difficulty of the material to be grind. The national standard specifies the use of crushing work index Wi (kwh/t).

The smaller the value, the better the material grinding, and vice versa difficult to grind.

08 Influence of Grinding Aids

Back

We can add grinding aid in the ball mill without harming product performance.

Most of the commonly used grinding aids are organic substances with strong surface activity, which can be adsorbed on the surface of the material in the grinding process , accelerate the expansion of cracks , reduce the mutual adhesion between fine powders, and contribute to the energy saving and high yield of the grinding mill.

09

Back

The yield of closed-circuit process is 15-20% higher than open-circuit process of the same size grinding mill. The selection of appropriate separator efficiencies and cycle rates in closed circuit operation are important factors in improving mill yield.

10 Fineness Requirements for Grinding Materials

Back

The finer the grinding fineness required, the lower the yield, and vice versa, the higher the yield.

11To Wrap Up

Back

The above introduces the reasons why the output of ball mill does not reach the design requirements.

Does your ball mill have these problems?

  • unreasonable proportion of ball mill bin length

  • large grinding material size

  • high grinding material temperature

  • large moisture content of the material

  • Poor ventilation in the mill

  • Irrational ratio of grinding medium

Does your current ball mill equipment operate at its designed capacity? If that's not ideal, looking to the above reasons and find the solutions! If you have different views or questions about the ball mill capacity, welcome to submit a message and inquire our online service.
