At present, the common silica sand processing plant is to remove the mineral impurities in the silica sand by scrubbing and desliming, magnetic separation, chute gravity separation, flotation, pickling or several combined methods to obtain high purity silica sand with particle size and impurity content that meet the requirements. In this silica sand processing process, the commonly used silica sand processing equipment mainly includes rod mill, magnetic separator, flotation machine, detained subside machine, XCⅢ hydrocyclone, high frequency and high efficiency dewatering screen, inclined plate thickener, scrubbing machine, desudging bucket, slurry pump and so on. 01Rod Mill


In silica sand processing plant, the grinding equipment is mainly rod mill, which has better grinding effect, controllable discharge particle size and certain scrubbing function.

  • The particle size of silica sand mill is usually between 40 mesh and 120 mesh. When the steel rod of the rod mill is in surface-to-surface contact with the material, it is not easy to appear over-grinding. And at the same time, it ensures the qualified products of grinding and excludes the unqualified products.

  • The use of rod mill to treat silica sand can play a role of scrubbing to a certain extent, which can help remove some impurities.

  • The steel rod of the silica sand rod mill has a certain screening effect on the silica sand during the movement process, so that the large particles can be lifted to the top position of each layer and concentrated to the place with strong crushing ability for crushing.

02Magnetic Separator


Magnetic separation is one of the effective methods to remove iron-containing impurities in silica sand, so as to remove weak magnetic impurity minerals such as hematite, limonite and biotite including conjoined particles as much as possible.

Silica sand high intensity magnetic separation usually uses wet high intensity magnetic separator or high gradient magnetic separator. 

  • Generally speaking, silica with weak magnetic impurity minerals such as limonite, hematite and biotite as the main impurities can be separated by wet high intensity magnetic machine above 10000 GS. 

  • For the strong magnetic minerals with impurity mainly magnetite, it is better to use the weak magnetic machine or the medium magnetic machine for separation. 

  • In order to further remove a small amount of other weak magnetic minerals (such as amphibole, pyroxene and the symbiosis of magnetic minerals and silica), the high-gradient magnetic separator with a magnetic field intensity greater than 12000 Gauss can be used for secondary magnetic separation.

03Flotation Cell


Flotation is also a widely used mineral processing method in silica sand processing plants, mainly to remove feldspar, mica and other non-magnetic associated impurities in silica sand. Silica sand processing equipment used in this process is various types of suction mechanical agitation flotation machine (SF type flotation machine, BF type flotation machine, JJF type flotation machine) and inflating mechanical agitation flotation machine (KYF type flotation machine, XCF type flotation machine).

04Detained Subside Machine


Detained subside machine is a kind of equipment that interferes with settlement. It is mainly composed of cylinder, bracket, feed port, overflow groove, retaining ring, supporting seat, pressure detector, electric valve and automatic control system, etc. It is a special and effective equipment for separating silica sand and other nonmetals. The material in the cylinder under the action of rising water flow, to achieve the purpose of particle size classification, specific gravity sorting. It has high production efficiency and low energy consumption.

In the silica sand processing plant, the blocked settler can strictly classify the coarse and fine particles and completely replace the fine screen for particle size control.

05XCⅢ Hydrocyclone


XCIII hydrocyclone has a specially designed fish tail device at the grit nozzle, and a specially designed siphon device on the top of the overflow tank, so it has excellent characteristics unmatched by other hydrocyclones. Through the adjustment of the siphon device, higher underflow concentration and lower overflow concentration can be obtained. For the silica sand processing plants, the overflow can be adjusted to discharge almost water, and the underflow concentration can be as high as 85%. In addition, the specially designed fish tail device can keep the discharge concentration and overflow fineness of the cyclone cone underflow constant when the ore feeding amount, ore feeding concentration and ore feeding pressure fluctuate within a certain range.

06High Frequency and High Efficiency Dewatering Screen


The structure of high-frequency and high-efficiency dewatering screen includes vibration motor, screen, dewatering screen frame, support and rubber spring. High-frequency and high-efficiency dewatering screen is a new type of high-efficiency dewatering equipment with simple structure, convenient maintenance and simple operation.

In the silica sand processing plants, the high-frequency and high-efficiency dewatering screen adopts a unique sieve plate structure, and the high-frequency vibration of the motor not only makes it difficult for the pulp particles to pass through the screen holes, but also has a higher dewatering efficiency, and the final water content is less than 15% of dry heap tailings.

07Inclined Plate Thickener


The inclined plate thickener is a slurry gravity thickening equipment designed with inclined parallel plates in the settlement area. The whole machine includes an upper box and a lower cone.

For the silica sand concentrator, the concentration process of the inclined plate thickener is completed in each independent inclined plate channel. Fine particle overflow or clean water is directly discharged laterally from the overflow surface of each channel, shortening the overflow discharge path. It can effectively solve the problem of short circuit and circulation of fine particles in the overflow discharge process, and ensure a high classification and concentration efficiency. The return water efficiency of classification and concentration can generally reach more than 70%. Compared with other thickeners, the inclined plate thickener used in the silica sand processing plant can accelerate the separation of ore particles, shorten the material settling time, strengthen the separation and settling process, improve the concentration efficiency, reduce capital investment, and increase the production capacity by about 3 times.

With the help of the mechanical force of the scrubbing machine and the abrasive peeling force between the sand particles, the thin film iron, bonding and muddy impurity deposits on the surface of the silica sand can be removed. At present, the silica sand scrubbing equipment mainly includes high-efficiency stirring scrubbing machines and spiral groove scrubbing machines.

The high-efficiency stirring scrubber is mainly composed of a motor, a reducer, a main shaft, upper, middle and lower impellers, and a tank body. The motor drives the three-layer specially designed rubber impeller on the main shaft to rotate through the hard-tooth surface reducer to scrub the material strongly. The tank body is hexagonal and lined with wear-resistant rubber. Easy to resist material impact and abrasion, long service life and low failure rate. It is suitable for particle scrubbing and cleaning of natural or artificial sand with mineral particle size of 0-6mm, various loose shale particles or materials, and dispersion, dissociation and separation of shale materials.

Spiral groove scrubber is composed of groove body, left and right helical blade shaft, and transmission device and so on. The motor drives the two helical shafts to rotate relative to each other through the reducer and the large and small gears, and the blades on the helical shaft are staggered. The mud mass and the ore particles adhering to the surface of the ore slime are rubbed and scrubbed with the help of the blade and rinsed with an appropriate amount of high-pressure water from the upper end of the tank body, so that the ore slime can be broken up and separated from the ore particles to achieve the purpose of washing. The spiral groove scrubber has a better washing effect for the silica sand with a certain proportion of mud content, especially for the viscous mud mass.

09Desilting Bucket


The desliming bucket is a simple equipment for classification, desliming and concentration. The ore feeding cylinder is set at the center of the liquid surface, and the bottom edge of the cylinder is submerged below the liquid surface. The pulp is fed into the central cylinder along the tangential direction, and flows out from the bottom edge after buffering. The outflowing ore slurry radially flows out to the surrounding overflow weir. During this process, the coarse particles whose sedimentation velocity is greater than the liquid upflow velocity will settle in the tank and be discharged through the bottom grit. The fine particles enter the overflow tank with the surface slurry. Usually, the feeding particle size is less than 2mm, and the classification particle size is 75um or finer.

In the silica sand processing plant, the desliming bucket can be used to deslime the silica sand ore before the hindered settler, so as to improve the classification efficiency. It can also use for concentration and dehydration of silica sand before the rod mill to improve the feeding concentration of the rod mill. It can also use in various silica sand sorting equipment to control the concentration and amount of ore feeding.

10Slurry Pump


Slurry pump is an important slurry conveying equipment in silica sand processing plant. Its function is to transport the pulp to the desliming hopper and the box filter press or other pulp transport links. The slurry pump is lined with XH wear-resistant rubber, which not only enhances its own wear resistance, but also ensures that the desliming bucket and the box filter press are in good working condition and prolongs the service life of the slurry pump.
